Socométa, a metallurgy company based in Confolens, was founded in 1976 by Leroy Somer. Starting as a company specializing in deburring cast parts, its activities expanded to include aluminum and bronze foundry work in 1982. In June 2011, Socométa was acquired by the FMC Group, a holding company consisting of four former executives of the company.
Ten years later, Socométa became a part of the La Fonte Ardennaise Group, becoming the 8th entity of the leading independent European subcontracting foundry. The group has a workforce of 1,500 employees.
